Introducing IP-PBX for SME Business

Suilah.com publishes new presentation of VoIP for Business - An Introduction of IP Telephony Technology for Geo-distributed Multi-site Businesses:

Help companies migrating the use of business telephony technology from the traditional TDM-based PBX to the packet-switched SIP-based IP-PBX.

其實我們已經做得到讓從 Kaohsiung 到 Osaka, Tokyo, Busan, Seoul, San Francisco, Boston, New York, London, Munich, Istanbul, Dubai, Tehran, Mumbai,...

Microsoft comes into UC market, too!

IT / software giant Microsoft comes in to take part in the Unified Communications (UC / 整合通信 / 整合通訊) market, too! The Microsoft Lync 2013 is its latest version of UC platform. You can learn more about Lync Server on Wikipedia.org or on Microsoft corporate website.

Traditional business communication environment originally consisted of plain telephony and fax services only. The market demand was fulfilled by telecom equipment vendors. Since wide adoption of mobile phone and smartphone uses, and change of communication behavior, people started to demand for a more effective and convenient communication system with multimedia, multichannel and mobility support. So, telecom gets to include and implement IT features in the new business communication system. And IT players get the opportunities to take part as well. Telecom and IT merges as ICT.

Why Unified Communications?

What's the next telecom strategy to look after deploying VoIP telephony throughout your enterprises? Probably you can consider to go Unified Communications (UC / 整合通信) next. What is Unified Communications?

Referring to the first paragraph of the descriptions on Wikipedia.org, Unified Communications (UC / 整合通信) is

The integration of real-time communication services such as instant messaging (chat), presence information, telephony (including IP telephony), video conferencing, data sharing (including web connected electronic whiteboards interactive whiteboards), call control and speech recognition with non-real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax). UC is not necessarily a single product, but a set of products that provides a consistent unified user-interface and user-experience across multiple devices and media-types.

By the definition above, UC system consists of not only the well-known VoIP telephony features, but also other forms of communications via different media. That makes UC a much more sophisticated case to plan and design before deployment. And hardly to find an individual vendor who provides everything required in a planned UC system. A list of Unified Communications companies you can look up on Wikipedia.org.

So, why bother to adopt UC into your business telecommunication systems? This is proposed to achieve a better communication efficiency and a greater team collaboration capability with a higher degree of workforce mobility.

Telephone is simple, direct and good to use. But, according to statistics research findings, there are early 2 in every 3 calls go into voicemail, and worse, nearly 2 in every 3 returned calls also go into voicemail or unanswered. Then we use other means of communications like email, voicemail and instant messaging to try delivering our message while telephone call is temporarily ineffective or unreachable.

To simplify interface and make ease of using so many different forms of communication media, that is what UC comes in for.

In addition to frequent-in-use voice telephony, UC usually includes other communication media or features like:
  • Presence / online status
  • Instant messaging
  • Conferencing with audio, video and/or web
  • Unified messaging

Suilah we would like to introduce reliable VoIP / UC technology (IP 電話, 網路電話總機, 整合通信技術) and help making customized solutions specially for small and medium sizes enterprises (中小企業) in Taiwan (屏東, 高雄, 台南) and the world. Pushing business telecom toward an all-IP environment. Send your message for more discussion or cooperation.

IP Telephony vs. Instant Messaging

Desktop instant messaging and mobile instant messaging (即時通信軟體, e.g. Google Talk, LINE, Skype, Whatsapp) are more and more widely adopted as a business telecommunication medium, as a result mainly driven by individual employees using consumer-grade free apps either on PCs or on their own mobile devices at work. However, telephone still plays a very important role of a more effective, more efficient, more reliable, and also more instant way of telecommunication which is a necessary for all businesses.

LINE logo - A popular social instant messaging app.

Those popular in-use social instant messaging apps send text, voice and even video over the Internet, so users can reach contacts out of their workplace conveniently, enjoying mobility and boundary-less communication at none of expenses. This is a significant advantage that instant messaging provides but traditional circuit-switched telephone technology (voice over "PSTN + PBX") doesn't.

Traditional circuit-switched telephone technology (voice over "PSTN + PBX") limits corporate internal telephony network within one premises (i.e. office / building in one geographic location) which does not meet today's needs for a more flexible, portable and secure business telecommunication technology.

Thanks to the use of VoIP technology, there comes a new sort of PBX which can send and receive calls over packet-switched IP networks (e.g. LAN, WAN, Internet) so corporate internal telephony services can be substantially or virtually extended beyond office boundaries. That is, IP-PBX (網路電話總機, IP 電話系統).
